The Lotteria degli scontrini (Receipts sweepstake) is getting a makeover! In fact, Lotteria istantanea (Instant sweepstake), is added to the modalities we have all been used for a few years. Let's see how it works.

The new Lotteria Istantanea degli Scontrini

The Lotteria Istantanea degli Scontrini allows instant verification of the winning. The customer, can now check in a direct and autonomous way a QR-Code present in the commercial documents: just download the appropriate smartphone app and scan the code with it.

The rule by which the sweepstake is activated for amounts of 1 euro or more, paid entirely by electronic means, is still valid. In any case, the new modality does not replace the one currently in force, where the merchant reads the "sweepstake code": one can in fact participate in both. So, let's also review the "old" version of the contest.

History, generation and reading of the "sweepstake code"

The Lotteria Nazionale degli Scontrini (National receipts sweepstake) is a free prize competition in which all citizens over the age of 18 residing in Italy can participate. Every purchase for an amount of 1 euro or more, made electronically, generates a virtual ticket for every euro spent, up to a maximum of 1,000 tickets per single purchase.

As of January 1, 2021, it is in fact possible to ask the merchant to match the "lottery code" to the receipt, i.e., the alphanumeric code that every citizen can obtain by accessing the "Sweepstake Portal". This code is also available in barcode format, so it can be read very easily by the merchant with a device from the Scanmatic line: perfect pairing with a telematic cash register, for a practical and complete package.

The Sweepstake Portal

The barcode can be printed on paper or saved on a device such as a smartphone or tablet. To get it, there is no need to register on the Sweepstake Portal: just enter your tax code in the public area of the Portal. However, such a platform is also very useful for other functions.

In fact, the public area of the Portal contains a great deal of information about the lottery: the schedule and status of individual draws, winning receipt codes and unclaimed prize codes, information regarding the game, how to participate and how to collect prizes.

The Portal's restricted area (accessible through Spid, Fisconline and Entratel credentials or National Services Card) then allows users to perform important operations: consult their profile, check the virtual tickets associated with the individual receipt, check winnings and the deadline for claiming prizes, and activate SMS and other means of communication to receive notification of the winning.

Frequency and amounts of the draws

"Deferred" draws of the Lotteria degli scontrini give access to higher prizes than the Lotteria Istantanea and also affect the merchant who issues the receipt:

• 1 €5 million annual prize for the consumer and 1 €1 million prize for the merchant;
• 10 monthly prizes of 100,000 euros each to consumers and 10 prizes of 20,000 euros to merchants;
• 15 weekly prizes of 25,000 euros each to consumers and 15 prizes of 5,000 euros to merchants.

Winners are notified immediately by SMS, e-mail or instant messaging, if the relevant data has been entered in the restricted area of the Portal. Winners also receive a formal notification, which can be done in two ways: via a PEC (Certified Electronic Mail) to the address the taxpayer entered in the Portal or via a registered letter with return receipt, delivered to the last tax domicile known to the Agency.
