Green Pass: what it is, where it is required and how to manage it for access control

From 6 August, the COVID-19 green certificate, better known as the Green Pass, will be required to access many places and services. So let's look at how to obtain this important certificate and where it will need to be shown.
What the Green Pass or green certificate is
The COVID-19 green certificate is a digital, printable certificate issued by the Ministry of Health's national platform, containing a QR Code to verify its authenticity and validity. Also known as the Green Pass, the certificate gives access to events, facilities and public places in Italy.
The Green Pass also makes travelling around Europe easier. Since 1 July it has been valid as an EU digital COVID certificate, making it simpler to travel to and from all countries in the European Union and the Schengen area. Please note that in its European version, unlike the Italian one, the certificate is only issued 15 days after the second dose of the vaccine.
How to obtain green certification
There are several ways to obtain the Green Pass. It can be downloaded from www.dgc.gov.it using SPID, or by entering your health card number and the authcode received by text message or email after vaccination. Alternatively, it can be obtained from your regional electronic health record or through the ‘Io’ and ‘Immuni’ apps.
At present, the paper document certifying vaccination is also accepted as a Green Pass in Italy. This is issued on the day of vaccination, once the injection has been given, or can again be downloaded from your region's electronic health record.
Where the Green Pass will need to be shown
From 6 August 2021, everyone over the age of 12 will have to show the certificate to access sporting events, trade fairs, conferences, museums, theme and amusement parks, spas, bingo halls and casinos, theatres, cinemas, concerts and public competitive examinations.
The Green Pass will also be required to sit at indoor tables in bars and restaurants. Finally, it will be required in swimming pools, gyms, team sports and wellness centres, for indoor activities only. At present, however, it does not need to be shown in shops, pharmacies and supermarkets.
Custom solutions for access control
In circumstances such as the current ones, access control therefore becomes a very important issue. Custom has long offered various solutions to meet this need effectively and flexibly. Our product combinations can be adapted to staffed situations, unstaffed situations or those with checks at the point of sale.
Mobile computers with dedicated software installed are the perfect tool for staffed checkpoints. Inspection staff can easily view and cross-check both identity documents (such as passports and electronic identity cards) and digital certificates of various kinds.
Our kiosks with a QR Code reader, LED lights and an LCD display are extremely practical for quick self-service checks, informing users and indicating their status. They are ideal devices for venues hosting concerts, shows and events in general.
Checks can also take place at different times thanks to dedicated solutions at the point of sale. Applications that integrate with PC POS systems on the one hand and with barcode readers on the other allow checks to be carried out on more than one occasion. A practical response to the needs of the Ho.Re.Ca. sector.
